About Island Falls

Island Falls is a rural community located in Southern Aroostook County.
We have a year-round population of 847 that doubles in the summer.
We offer a great escape for those who are outdoor enthusiasts and for those looking to
slow down and refresh. As the home of two pristine lakes (Mattawamkeag & Pleasant)
and Mattawamkeag River, we offer some of the best fishing, hiking, boating and
kayaking in the state. Our fall foliage is spectacular and the dark skies of the region
are perfect for star gazing and night time photography.
Island Falls has many other recreational opportunities. Some of them include an
18-hole golf course with condominium complex, hunting, and trapping. The town is also
connected to the Maine I.T.S. for ATV and snowmobiling. All Town of Island Falls Maine
ATV trails are mixed use trails that are very well maintained. These trails extend
to Millinocket, Houlton, Patten, and beyond. The Canadian border is just 35 miles away,
and a National Scenic Highway is a beautiful afternoon drive from Island Falls to the
highway, right across from New Brunswick.

With stunning views of Mount Katahdin and all the best Maine has to offer, it's no wonder
Island Falls was the playground of our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. If you love
history, you will certainly enjoy visiting some of our historic sites, including Bible Point
State Historic Site. This is a 27 acre point of land, where young Roosevelt used to reflect in solitude.
The Island Falls Historical Society maintains a jail house, as well as the Tingley house Museum.
These town buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Business is welcome and encouraged in Island Falls! We have minimal regulation, close interstate
access, and a railway nearby. Both public and private land are available for sale.

We encourage you to call the Town Office with any questions you may have.
